Name: Rand Tyvin
Age: 18
Gender: Male
Faction: Principality of Zeon
Rank: Ensign
Place of Birth: Side 3
Personality: Rand is a very passionate and headstrong individual, though not one overly stubborn as to completely disregard Zeon authority when it presents itself, the zealous patriot that he is. Often times though, his pride can often get in the way. Passion for his nation notwithstanding, Rand is highly individualistic, and wants to prove himself, though to what extent or to whom he has been hesitant to share. Off of the battlefield, Rand seldom strays from the mindset of the empassioned zealot, a demeanor that is reflected in his conversations with others. His thoughts are often so focused on the war effort and Zeon itself, that more trivial and 'down-to-earth' topics are awkward and difficult for him to acclimate to like most people. The battlefield is where Rand shines, as he is a loyal and trusting soldier through and through, and can be counted on to be there for his fellow spacenoids, personal stigma aside.
Appearance:
Rand is a clean-cut individual on the brink between adolescence and manhood. He is cleanly shaven, though his jet-black hair is often a bit of a spiky mess, rarely kept, and mostly for inspection. At a glance he doesn't seem to be one to care much for formal attire, often wearing a simple white buttoned shirt with a loose black tie and black pants when he isn't in uniform, though when he is, he wears his colors proudly. Rand always has something of a fierce and serious look on his face, and seems to have difficulty showing less intense expressions. His eyes are an extremely dark brown, bordering on black itself, and often the most distinguishable feature of his serious persona. Rand keeps an air of confidence and pride about him that is not easily distilled. Rand isn't overly tall, being rather moderate in his height of 5'10" and weight of approximately 190 lbs. He does not seem to have much outright muscle in his build, most of his character exuded in his spirit and stubborn will.
History:
Rand’s family was plagued at his birth, the final straw in his mother’s worsening condition that left her body cold and lifeless as he was plucked from her womb. Deposited into the distraught arms of his father, the child instantly received the man’s scorn, and continued to receive it for the rest of his life. Rand's father was a bitter and reproachful individual that was not one to forgive nor forget, let alone when it was towards the little wretch that tore his beloved from him. As he grew up, Rand adopted his father’s brooding sentiment as a result of his distant upbringing, relying more on himself and the spirit of Zeon that he was raised to worship.
Despite the animosity that his father held toward him, Rand was constantly opposed by his father on endeavors he wanted to pursue, from outstanding academic rigor to pursuing a career on colonies away from his father. While Rand could not understand why his distant and aggravating father wanted to keep him stuck on Side 3, his father was still overwhelmed with grief and a developed abandonment complex, with his son as his last link to this life. By far, though, the greatest grievance was when he denied Rand the opportunity to enlist as a Mobile Suit pilot in the raging war against the Earth Federation. This was when Rand’s juvenile spirit finally snapped, and in an ultimate act of defiance, ran off to join the Zeon forces in spite of what his father seemed to think was best for him.
Rand’s time as an ensign, however, has been anything but pleasant, or even motivating, let alone for one so passionate for his cause. His frequent quarrels with superior officers and fights with his peers that he was easily provoked into set Rand on the bad side of many officers, eventually culminating in him being sent to the North American frontier. Where many soldiers would be disheartened or even despaired by such an assignment, Rand was all too happy to oblige such an order, despite how his time as a Zaku pilot had gone thus far. It would be a new opportunity for him, in which he could prove his worth to Zeon, and more importantly to himself, his self-esteem not exactly having fared for the better… until now.
