Act 1: The One Year War
The year is Universal Century 0079 and the conflict between the Principality of Zeon and Earth Federation forces that will be later known as the "One Year War" has been raging for several months. With morale on both sides at an all-time low due to massive numbers of casualties in the fighting both on Earth and in space, the dregs of both side’s barrels are being thrust onto the frontlines in order to continue the fight. Such is the case on the battlefields of North America where deserters and other undesirables from both the Federation and Zeon have come to make up the vast majority of soldiers in the trenches. The American front, forgotten by Zabi family and the Federation after the death of their youngest member, Garma Zabi, has only now once again become a center-point of conflict.
With the unexpected fall of Zeon's largest stronghold on Earth, Odessa Base, the forces of Side 3 have now begun to devote more forces to North America in order to try and secure one of their remaining footholds. Now outnumbered and outgunned, the prospects for the Federation forces seemed bleak until a new development came to light. Originally at a severe disadvantage due to Zeon's monopoly on the use of Mobile Suits, the Federation has finally begun to develop and mass-produce their own. Many of these new machines are now starting to find their way to the North American forces and for the first time since the beginning of the war the sides have evened out.
It is now late November, U.C. 0079. As the war approaches its one year anniversary the conflict threatens to become even more ferocious than it was before. Both sides have called in elite units to help give their side an edge over the fighting. It will be up to the men and women fighting on the frontlines to determine the outcome.
The Story So Far
The Black Demon's Arrival (0079.11.12)
On November 12th a convoy of Gaw Transports was intercepted over the ruined city of Chicago, one of the aircraft being brought down by Federation ships stationed on Lake Michigan. The cargo of the doomed Gaw as none other than Captain Alexander Waltz himself. Performing basic training and tests in their brand new Mobile Suits, the members of the Federation's North American Experimental Unit were suddenly given orders to secure the crash site and subdue whatever may have survived. Meanwhile Zeon had deployed a recovery team behind enemy lines just in case something went wrong. What began was a game of cat and mouse as both sides raced to secure the crash and in the end it was the Federation that reached the location first. Just as the Zeon pilots launched an attack to retake the Gaw, however, Alexander Waltz, who had successfully escaped the Gaw in his Zaku and had hidden inside of a bombed out building, made a sudden appearance. Attacked from two sides, the rookie Federation pilots were left bruised and beaten as the victorious Zeon troops fled into the night, returning to friendly territory.
First Blood (0079.11.14)
Thankful for the rescue, Alexander Waltz adopted the Zeon Mobile Suit team as his own and gave birth to foundations of the 'Gorgon Team'. Their first test of true combat as a unit would come during a full-scale assault on Federation defensive fortifications outside of the city of Des Moines. Throwing themselves against Federation tank platoons and artillery bunkers, the new team proved themselves to be a force to be reckoned with. With the support of other units they broke apart the Federation defenders quickly and it was not long before a total rout was in effect. It was into this situation that the Federation Mobile Suit Team once again appeared. Stinging from their previous defeat and the knowledge that they had been deployed in Chicago as a sacrificial pawn to try and test the capabilities Federation Mobile Suits against a veteran Zeon pilot, they arrived too late to turn the tide of battle in the favor of the Federation. Instead they had no choice but to try and cover the retreat of the broken defenders for as long as they could.
Outnumbered and outgunned, the would be rescuers found themselves surrounded by Zeon machines, one of their members even being killed by none other than Alexander Waltz himself. Once more they were forced to flee in the face of their enemies, their pride as soldiers soiled once more while the forces of Zeon celebrated a large victory in the wake of the loss at Odessa.
Operation Exorcist (0079.11.23)
The next week would see more of the same. Every time the Gorgon Team reared its head the Federation troops facing it were routed. Their spirits broken, the Federation Mobile Suit was not deployed to face their mortal foe and was instead simply forced to watch as battle after battle was won by Zeon. That changed with the arrival of reinforcements from Jaburo. Bolstered by a legion of the Federation's new Mass Produced Mobile Suits and two veterans from Odessa piloting special units, the surviving members of the Experimental Unit found themselves rechristened as the 01st Team of the new 232nd Mobile Suit Corps and prepared to finally turn the tables on their enemies.Beginning in the early hours of the morning, the Federation forces launched a major offensive across the entirety of the former United States, the battle line stretching from Indianapolis in the north to Baton Rouge in the south. On the banks of the Mississippi near the border of the former state of Kentucky in particular a trap was put in place. Using a team of powerful experimental Guntanks as bait, the 01st Team drew in Alexander Waltz and the Gorgon Team with a threat they could not ignore. As the ace and his team attacked the deceptively weak Federation position the trap was sprung, a smokescreen obscuring the sight of the Zeon Mobile Suits while Minovsky Particles disrupted their communications.
What followed was a disaster with Alexander Waltz's machine being shot down and disappearing into the depths of the Mississippi River while the rest of his team wound up either dead or wounded. With their prized ace missing, the Gorgon Team now rests at the back of the Zeon's frontlines, licking their wounds and waiting for the opportunity to strike back.
