Name: Alexander "The Black Demon" Waltz
Age: 40
Gender: Male
Faction: Principality of Zeon
Rank: Captain
Place of Birth: Bunch 22 Colony, Side 3
Personality: Alexander is a soldier to the core in that he believes in a fair and honorable fight. He is not too strict in regards to rules and military doctrine, preferring to leave such things to his superiors, and enjoys having a fun time with those under his command. Alexander knows that the only way to survive war is through close bonds with those fighting besides you and that is what he seeks to create. His relaxed attitude when out of combat has gotten him into trouble in the past but none can deny his effectiveness during a battle. When behind the controls of a Mobile Suit, Alexander takes on a whole new persona. Becoming much more serious, he revels in the challenges put forward by his enemies, seeking to push himself to the edge of his abilities and thus become a better pilot. To that end he is often found boasting about his skills over those of his opponents and egging them on into fighting him harder.
Appearance:
Alexander has devoted his whole life to soldiering and his appearance shows it. He is extremely strong as evidenced by his large, muscular build. He stands at 6 feet 2 inches which makes him tower over most others. His chest and arms are covered in scars that he gained in battles. His brown hair is combed back away from his face, causing it to hang down towards the neck, while a small amount of stubble on his chin gives him a more rugged appearance. His most striking feature are his grey eyes which gleam with the intent of some predatory beast. Alexander wears a dark grey Zeon uniform with silver markings when not in combat. When in his mobile suit he wears a black pilot suit with a white stripe going down each arm.
History: Born in U.C. 0039, Alexander was the son of two poor workers who had immigrated to space in search of jobs constructing the newly established Side 3. Growing up on the colony of Bunch 22, Alexander had little to no connection with the planet that his parents had lived on. To him Earth was nothing but a glowing blue orb in space, often hidden behind the white surface of the Moon. It was perhaps for this reason that as child he felt looked down upon by the Federation soldiers and sailors that would occasionally come into dock, believing that they looked down on him for being a Spacenoid.
It would be years later that Alexander would encounter a movement that could put his feelings into words. Having always had an interest in politics, even as thirteen year old boy he surprised his parents and teachers with what he knew and what his opinions were. It was around this time that he heard his parents arguing about a man named ‘Zeon Zum Deikun’ during dinner. His father, a proud Earthnoid even if he now lived in space, claimed that Zeon’s ideas about independence for the colonies were dangerous while his mother thought that his ideas could be helpful if they were made less radical.
The talk inspired Alexander to find out the truth for himself and led him and several of his friends to go and see one of Zeon’s rallies in person. From that day forward the young boy was entranced by the visionary’s charismatic words and dedicated himself to his ideals.
When time came for Side 3 to declare its independence, Alexander and his fellows were quick to join Colonial Republican Guard in order to protect their new home. The birth of the Republic of Zeon also lead to his parents leaving Side 3. Not wanting to abandon the Earth Federation to which they remained loyal, they tried to encourage Alexander to leave with them but he refused. At age nineteen Waltz bid farewell to his parents for the last time.
Alexander maintained his dedication to the new nation throughout the next several years, showing a great aptitude for the military lifestyle as the Republican Guard transformed into the Zeon Elite Force. For the most part he chose to stay out of politics, not taking a direct part in the schism that formed between Deikun’s supporters and those of the Zabi family. In private he believed that it was Zeon’s right to lead as the father of the Republic but mostly kept it to himself.
In the end the decision of the matter was completely out of his hands as it wasn’t long after that Zeon died mysteriously. Though he had his suspicions of the Zabi’s involvement in the death and was pressured by some of his longtime friends to pledge to support the Deikun-Loyalists in the political purges that followed, Alexander refused. In his mind his first duty was to his new wife and unborn child as well as the people of Side 3 more than any specific political ideology. He would fight to protect them above all else no matter the cost.
Still his former loyalties saw to it that even as the ZEF became the Zeon Military Force that Alexander, despite his experience, was passed by for better appointments or promotions and was instead assigned to be an academy instructor. He performed his new duties without hesitation even as he watched his students become increasingly radical due to the words of Gihren Zabi. Despite his misgivings Alexander knew that it was only a matter of time before the Federation began a war with the Principality of Zeon and realized that their nation needed all the competent soldiers they could get.
What saw Alexander’s fortunes finally change was the development of the Mobile Suit. Displaying a remarkable talent for the new technology that was matched by many of the other original pilots, Alexander was not only reassigned to the first Mobile Suit combat battalion but was also made one of the first poster-children for the project by Zeonic Company. With this came new fame and wealth that saw Alexander and his family join the elite of the Principality’s society. Even then Alexander felt as if he did not belong but was grateful for the extra security it brought his wife and young son.
Then came the Reah Revolution, the first time in which he would be deployed into battle. In charge of the Zaku team deployed in support of the Nationalists who were fighting for independence. Though they did not take any direct part in the fighting, Alexander and his team did succeed in being weapons of intimidation that stopped the Federation loyalists and Federal troops in their tracks.
It wasn’t long after that the One Year War began. An experienced Mobile Suit pilot at that point, Alexander fought during the One Week War, Operation: British and the Battle of Loum with distinction. The dark colors of his Mobile Suit and the relentlessness with which he fought would earn him a moniker much like Char “The Red Comet” Aznable, Ramba “The Blue Giant” Ral, Shin “The Fabulous White Wolf” Matsunaga or Johnny “The Crimson Flash” Ridden, his being “The Black Demon”.
Though he felt that the aggression of the Zabi family was unwarranted and their tactics in terms of gassings and colony drops were horrifying he knew there was no way to stop what had begun now. In a war as brutal as this there was no telling what would happen to the losing side in the aftermath. In Alexander’s mind this meant that the war had to be won for the sake of his family and the citizens of Side 3. Though history might judge him harshly he would fight for Zeon and see the war through to the end for there was no choice in the matter as far as he was concerned.
As the battles of the war transitioned to Earth, Alexander was freed from his dreary life in the colonies and reassigned to the Gravity Front. Following the death of Garma Zabi, he was called upon by the forces stationed in North America to help break the stalemate that had formed there. For the first time Alexander stepped foot on the world which his parents hailed from.
